Motorcycle Insurance: What To Remember
When buying their first motorcycle, most people are so excited to jump on that bike and ride to make sure they have the proper insurance. Sure, most new bikers readily pick out the helmet, boots and leather jacket, but fail to add in the price of motorcycle insurance when they are figuring out whether they can afford the bike in the first place.
Obviously, motorcycle insurance is an item that every motorcycle owner/driver should have. It does not matter if the motorcycle in question is a used Suzuki or a brand-new, feature-loaded BMW. Here are a few things to keep in mind so that you get the best insurance for your money:
1. Look for a “combination” policy. Think about what other types of insurance you own (home/auto) and talk to the insurance agency/company that you are dealing with for those policies. In this case, you will add or combine the motorcycle policy to your home and/or auto policy. This type of policy is easier for your insurance agency as they only have to send you one bill, and saves you money since there is a discount for more than one policy.
2. Consider liability only insurance. If you are really strapped for cash, it is an option to select a liability only policy. This type of policy only covers the very basics, but in the end does offer *some* protection in cases of accident or theft.
3. Think about purchasing coverage for your accessories. That helmet and chrome bumper that you added on are expensive! In many cases, an insurance company will reimburse you more for the accessories rather than the bike itself.
